I think what I took from this article though is that a lot of times it’s the environmental factors that even drive whether a “good engineer” even cares enough or has the support to be in one of those two camps. Often the nontechnical think they have some kind of intuition about who is “good” or “bad” or even a “10x” while simultaneously unintentionally sabotaging the conditions which would help the engineers produce higher quality code. It’s actually super toxic and I advise everyone to be wary of most of these companies.
