For Apple Vision Pro users — through the Apple Store, there is a “View in AR” button that will put a “digital twin” of the product in your field.

Such shopping experiences have been theorized and attempted, but if you are a believer that this is how e-commerce will work, this is the most complete implementation to date.

I’ve spoken with many startups with aspirations to build this kind of mixed reality / AR / #spatialcomputing experience.

Here’s Apple. just subtly dropping this into their product launch.

It may be the most important part of the whole AVP launch.

All they need is a standardized protocol and a standardized asset format and a “universal virtual product store” is born.

Now.. do I believe Apple will do this? No. But what I do see is a huge opportunity in web3 space to make a decentralized version of this type of experience.

I see the challenge as this — Standardizing around types of 3D models of these products and providing the protocol for displaying in ‘verse space and then a protocol for purchasing. AI for generation if the models, decentralized hosting like IPFS (or better) and perhaps an L2 or L1 EVM contract protocol.

Do you have thoughts or opinions about this? I would love to hear from you.
